With the Whiskey Barrel Edition, we ventured into new territory at BALOLO. For the first time, we developed a limited special edition of the Setup Cockpit.
At the center of this project is material that already carries a long history: wood from authentic American whiskey barrels in which whiskey has matured for decades.
Inside these oak barrels, whiskey develops its distinctive depth and complexity. During this process, the wood itself also changes. Over time, through temperature fluctuations, humidity, and the charring of the barrels, it develops its own character, marked by patina and burn marks.
From Barrel Stave to Monitor Stand: A Complex Process
The Setup Cockpit of the Whiskey Barrel Edition is made from the staves of real whiskey barrels.
These staves are strongly curved and shaped by decades of use. Transforming them into the clean, precise form of the Setup Cockpit therefore requires considerable effort.
Each stave is carefully flattened by hand by experienced carpenters in the Black Forest, cut into shorter segments and then glued together to reach the required dimensions for a Setup Cockpit. Only after this step do the regular manufacturing processes begin.
Honest Craftsmanship in the Black Forest
As all our products, the Whiskey Barrel Edition is manufactured in Germany.
The barrel wood is processed by experienced carpenters in the Black Forest. With this material in particular, craftsmanship and experience are essential: every stave is unique and has its own character. This makes the process demanding, but that is exactly what made this project so special.
Our goal was to continue the story of the material while combining it with our commitment to craftsmanship. It was never our intention to turn the barrel wood into something flawless, but rather to preserve its own character.
Limited by Material and Process
From the very beginning it was clear that this edition could only be crafted in very small numbers. Selecting suitable barrel staves, preparing them, and processing them individually makes large-scale production nearly impossible. For this reason, the first BALOLO Limited Edition was limited to just 20 pieces worldwide.
Each of these 20 copies is unique and numbered with a laser engraving on the underside. In addition, each Whiskey Barrel Edition Setup Cockpit comes with a certificate of authenticity made from one of the staves used in production. This creates a tangible connection between the finished product and the material it originated from.
A Unique Material, The Same System
While the material of this edition is extraordinary, the functionality remains the same: the Whiskey Barrel Edition is fully based on our modular Setup Cockpit system.
This means that it also features our patented mounting grid. Accessories such as the Laptop Holder, MagSafe Charging Station or other add-ons can be mounted flexibly and rearranged at any time.
In this way, the Whiskey Barrel Edition combines the story of a unique material with the modularity and functionality of the Setup Cockpit and can be expanded just as individually as the existing versions.
Sold Out in 24 Hours
The response to the Whiskey Barrel Edition exceeded our expectations. Within 24 hours after launch, the entire edition was sold out. For us, this is a clear sign that we are not the only ones who appreciate materials with history and true craftsmanship.
The Whiskey Barrel Edition was more than just a new product for us. It was a passion project and a glimpse what can happen when design and material history come together.
And even though the Whiskey Barrel Edition is already sold out, we are certain of one thing: It will not be our last Limited Edition.
